Liverpool star Florian Wirtz has endorsed Andoni Iraola’s tactical plans at the club, stating he enjoys the new manager’s philosophy despite a 3-2 pre-season loss to AS Monaco.

In a chat with Sky Sports, Wirtz praised Iraola’s prior work at Bournemouth and feels positive about his central role.

He noted that Iraola’s intense, high-pressing style involves hard work and plenty of running.

“The last three years he did at Bournemouth, you could see what he could do with the team,” Wirtz said in comments made to Sky Sports.

“Of course we are looking forward to working with him. The first couple of weeks, I can just say that I’m enjoying it. It’s only been two weeks I’m in training, but I’m enjoying it, and I like the idea of football he has.”

Meanwhile, Iraola has noted that the squad is still building full 90-minute fitness for his high-octane system.

“It was quite similar to the game we played against Leeds,” he said.

“We played a good first half, especially a good 30 minutes. Right now we probably don’t have much more in terms of the levels required to play like this. They deserved to turn around the game.

“We won the first two preseason games, but in the last two we cannot sustain the level we want for all of the game. As soon as we made some changes, players started to get tired, and we could not sustain that level. So, we have work to do.”
