Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to invest in the ongoing Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals.

Obi made the call while responding to enquiries from Nigerians seeking his opinion on the public offer.

The NDC candidate said he was encouraging Nigerians to participate in the Dangote Refinery IPO, while expressing pride in Aliko Dangote’s investment in Nigeria’s real sector and his contributions across different sectors of the economy.

According to Obi, the development validates his long-standing position that Nigeria should move from a consumption-driven economy to one focused on production.

“I, therefore, encourage other Nigerian businesses to invest in the productive sectors of the Nigerian economy and also give fellow Nigerian citizens the opportunity to be part of the re-industrialization of the country by offering their shares to the public through public offerings,” he said.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO opened on September 14, 2026, with 4.1 billion ordinary shares offered at ₦525 per share. The minimum subscription is 10 shares valued at ₦5,250, while the offer is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026.

Obi’s comments come as the public offer provides Nigerians and other eligible investors an opportunity to acquire shares in the Dangote refinery through approved subscription channels.

He also called on other Nigerian businesses to embrace public offerings and provide citizens with opportunities to own stakes in productive enterprises, describing this as part of the broader re-industrialisation of the country.
