AFCON 2027Q: Iwobi to captain Super Eagles against Guinea-Bissau

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi will captain the Super Eagles in tonight’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matchday two clash against Guinea-Bissau’s Djurtus.

According to SCORENigeria, regular captain Wilfred Ndidi will start the encounter from the bench.

Iwobi is expected to lead a reorganised midfield as the Super Eagles look to build on their hard-fought 2-1 victory over Madagascar in their opening qualifier last Friday.

The 30-year-old is currently Nigeria’s most-capped active player and made his 102nd appearance for the three-time African champions against Madagascar.

Iwobi is now part of the Super Eagles’ 100-cap club, alongside Moses Simon, Vincent Enyeama, Joseph Yobo and Ahmed Musa.

The encounter, scheduled for the September 24 Stadium in Bissau, will kick off at 5.00pm Nigerian time.
